About Parallel

Parallel is a free-to-play sci-fi trading card game allowing players to own, battle, and engage in interstellar factions—available via PC and Epic Games.

Parallel is a free-to-play, competitive digital trading card game set in a richly imagined sci-fi universe, where players align with one of five unique factions—known as Parallels—to battle for supremacy using strategic deck-building, timing, and resource management. Developed by Parallel Studios, the game blends immersive lore, Web3 digital collectibles, and accessible gameplay to offer a deep and engaging experience for players at all levels.

Built around a robust card-based combat system, Parallel empowers players to collect, trade, and battle using custom-built decks. The game is currently in Open Beta and features high-quality 3D card artwork, active seasonal updates, and gameplay mechanics that reward both strategic depth and creative deck construction. Whether you're competing for ranked dominance or playing casually, Parallel offers a futuristic, faction-based battleground that evolves with every match.

At its core, Parallel is a 1v1 turn-based strategy game where players attempt to reduce their opponent's health to zero using a curated deck of 40 cards and a chosen Paragon—a powerful character offering unique passive and active effects. What sets Parallel apart is its immersive lore and rich sci-fi narrative: following a global cataclysm known as The Priming, five divergent human civilizations (Parallels) emerged from the scattered remains of Earth and now seek to reclaim their ancestral planet.

Each of the five Parallels—Earthen, Augencore, Kathari, Marcolian, and The Shroud—offers a distinctive gameplay identity, supported by tailored card abilities and unique Paragon mechanics. For example, the Marcolians wield militaristic aggression, while the Kathari rely on cloning and overwhelming numbers. The Shroud introduces corruption and late-game power, while Augencore emphasizes mech upgrades, and Earthen bring strong defenses and healing.

Players can earn or purchase cards in the form of in-game assets or Ethereum-based digital collectibles (ERC-1155 tokens), although owning Web3 assets is not required to play. Each match begins with 30 health points, and players must carefully manage their energy economy by “banking” cards to increase energy and draw more resources. This system adds a strategic layer where decisions between short-term plays and long-term resource building determine the flow of the match.

Beyond gameplay, Parallel is part of a larger universe that includes a growing lineup of games (like the upcoming Colony, a third-person extraction shooter), comics, and community events. With consistent updates, tournaments, cosmetic rewards, and high-quality world-building, Parallel positions itself competitively among other Web3 TCG projects like Gods Unchained and Skyweaver, offering more narrative depth and factional diversity. The project is built by veterans from companies like Riot Games, Blizzard, and Wizards of the Coast—bringing AAA production quality to the Web3 gaming space.

Parallel features a deeply strategic card-based combat system that revolves around timing, energy management, and faction-specific synergies:

  • Free to Play: Jump into the game at no cost. Earn cards, decks, and cosmetics simply by playing. Web3 assets are optional but can enhance your experience through rewards and trading.
  • Banking for Energy: Once per turn, players may bank a card face down to gain an additional unit of Energy. This mechanic allows for long-term planning and opens up higher-cost plays later in the match.
  • Factions and Paragons: Choose from five unique Parallel factions, each with three Paragons offering passive abilities and once-per-game active Unit deployment. Paragons persist on the field even if destroyed.
  • Deck Construction: Each deck includes 40 cards and one Paragon. Players may include up to three copies of any card, except for Legendary cards, which are limited to one per deck. Decks can also include Universal cards that are playable across all factions.
  • Card Types: Play using a mix of Units, Relics, Effects, and Upgrades. Units are your frontline attackers, Relics provide persistent effects, Effects are one-time actions, and Upgrades enhance Unit stats or abilities.
  • Flexible Turn Structure: There are no rigid phases. You can bank a card, play cards, and attack in any order during your turn. Draw a card at the start of your turn and again at the end if you banked.
  • Win Conditions: Reduce your opponent's health from 30 to 0, or force a concession. Strategic unit placement, combo timing, and upgrade application are essential to victory.
  • Game Zones: The game board includes areas for your Hand, Deck, Field, Bank (for energy), Waste Pile (discarded cards), and the Singularity (removed-from-game zone used by specific effects like those of The Shroud).
  • Accessibility: You don't need a Web3 wallet to participate, and all core gameplay is available on PC. However, owning collectible ERC-1155 cards on Ethereum via Parallel unlocks additional rewards and gameplay depth.

Parallel FAQ

  • In Parallel, each deck features a Paragon—a powerful figure that provides a permanent passive effect throughout the game. Unlike heroes or champions in other games, Paragons also have the option to be summoned as a Unit, adding an active presence on the board. Even if destroyed, their passive ability remains. This dual-role design gives Parallel an added layer of strategic depth and deck personalization.

  • Banking is the core resource mechanic in Parallel. Each turn, players may choose one card to bank face down, increasing their max energy and allowing for stronger plays in future turns. It forces a constant trade-off between short-term tempo and long-term strategy. This makes deck decisions more meaningful and encourages dynamic pacing across matches in Parallel.

  • Parallel avoids rigid phases to keep gameplay fluid and intuitive. Players can take actions—like banking, playing cards, or attacking—in any order during their turn. This non-linear turn structure allows for more creativity and responsive play, rewarding players who can adapt and think outside of conventional phase sequencing.

  • The Singularity is a unique zone in Parallel where cards are banished or removed from the game entirely. Unlike the Waste Pile, where cards might be retrieved or recycled, cards in the Singularity are unrecoverable unless a specific effect says otherwise. This mechanic is especially relevant to The Shroud faction and adds another layer of permanence and consequence to certain actions.

  • Parallel is fully free to play and does not require a Web3 wallet to get started. However, players who own ERC-1155 digital collectible versions of cards can unlock additional rewards like earning PRIME or trading on secondary markets. This optional integration ensures accessibility for all players, while still offering Web3 features through Parallel's Ethereum-based collectibles.
